Just thought I'd share with you some of my favourite illustrators, both of whom happen to be Australian!
The first is Kelly Thompson, I fist saw Kelly's work in the Sunday Times where she illustrates the very fashionable Mrs Mills for her weekly column. Check it out here. Kelly has worked with photographers and clothing brands and had her work appear in books, magazines and galleries. She works mainly in the medium of coloured pencil on card and then re-works the image in photoshop. My favourite series from her portfolio is the colourful works completed to celebrate reaching 5000 fans on Facebook; I love how the images appear to be both cartoon-like and realistic at the same time as well as the expressive use of colour.
The second illustrator I want to mention is Bec Winnel. I first found Bec on Instagram and fell in love with her dreamy, soft-focus realism. Bec's medium of choice is Pan Pastel, which she uses expertly to create dewy skin and deep-set eyes. I'm dying to try these pastels out, but they are quite a luxury at around £5 each, not to mention hard to source in the UK! She also works with coloured pencils and watercolour. Bec exhibits her collections frequently in galleries, so the next time her work is in London I will have to view the detail in person.
The best news is that both these artist have online shops (link below each picture) where you can purchase prints and original artworks to decorate your home!
